This article reminds me of the learning channel special finding that along the rye belt in Europe is where all the witch trial inquisition occurred where they killed all those people for being high on Ergot, the ingredients in LSD, thinking they were witches or magical pagans. Ergot is found in bread mold in rye bread.

Such mind altering substances may have always been a primary key in fathoming such a space.....
... and hence why might we think that so many of these substances are illegal and they shall punish use for use of them? Hell, I use 3% of my mind, that sure leaves a lot of room to be wasteful! LOL

I think drugs are scratch and sniff spirituality.
There are monks that can with their minds do much more then any mind altering substance and without the hang over.
But drugs have been used by spiritual groups for centuries to help the followers and create the ritual.
What I would love to learn how to do is induce a DMT trip or LSD trip naturally, that would be really interesting. At some level I can use astral project, creative visualization or meditate on a spot with my eyes open to cause such states, but not to the detail that these monks can do. Of course, they spend their whole lives working on meditation, and these mind altering experiences are simply distraction from being with the emptiness and infinite existence. -

DMT can be 'inspired' to find it's way into your body naturally through herbal mixtures including such ingredients as St. John's Wort.. I have the recipe here somewhere.
My own interpretation of this whole topic is something like this:
As you 'raise up' the scale of vibration you shift from Beta to Alpha, to Theta to Delta in your physical brain...
Beta = pain
Alpha = freedom/creativity
Theta = Opening the waking dream
Delta = Full on Waking lucid dreaming... Reality bends like the dream it is.
I must admit I still use plants from time to time and am a bit slack on my meditation at present, however I think that as we heal ourselves and open to the ideas that surround these various mindstates we attract ourselves to those experiences and those vibrations. It's all one thing seen from different perspectives.. Just like existence itself.
Gotta love the weirdness of it all!

Sat, May 10, 2008 - 11:59 AMA very clear example of how mind altering substances may not be as evil, wrongful and negative as we once thought. And hence upon completion of viewing this video one might begin to question why it is so that our government, leaders and laws wish to keep us away from such experiences. After all, if the result of taking this drug makes a highly trained killer, whom is in their own element of execution, stop, put down their weapons, and climb the closest tree in order to feed the birds, one might question their authorities and the true reasons why we are to stay away from such experiences. hmmm.
